June 16th, 2009

July 26th sees the return of East London’s premier pretentious paradise a matter of metres away from Hoxton’s heart. Where two summers ago saw the free event attract over 15,000, this year plans are afoot for a capacity of 6,000 ticketholders set to wander, stumble and fall between three uniquely tailored stages, conglomerating everything from cutting-edge fringes (twinned with the odd underground hit), a hub of the latest in electronica as well as a fair few gigantic headliners to round off an afternoon’s hedonism. Style will certainly be kissing and cavorting with substance from midday to the afterparties sprawled across Shoreditch that’ll see in the arrival of the suited and booted of Liverpool Street come Monday morn.

The main stage sees the return of underground heroes The Rakes as well as the Bowie of the Blogger’s generation Patrick Wolf alongside the breaking waves of the guitar washes of Flashguns and Hatcham Social. Elsewhere, the Pix Stage sees the welcome return of sequined disco metalheads Chrome Hoof paired off with a wealth of Horrors-endorsed doom and gloom in the shape of S.C.U.M, Factory Floor and Kasms whilst the Electronic & Dance Stage features Ed Banger’s Parisian electro overlord Krazy Baldhead and the future Kings of Kitsune, Crystal Fighters.

Gangs are generally bad things. Followed by world poverty and a burgeoning crack habit. None of which are true of this week’s guests, Gang Gang Dance. Playing their only UK tour date this year, and set to release deeply lauded album ‘Saint Dymphna’, Eleanor Conway of music.virgin.com chats to Gang Gang Dance about collaborating with grime artist Tinchy Stryder, suprising the contemporary art snobs at the Whitney Biennial and their love of Kylie.

Gang Gang Dance’s new album Saint Dymphna is out now.
